Action is inevitable as long as there is energy.
During Rapid Eye Movement (REM) in the sleep cycle, our system becomes active but the body is still at rest. Hence the only way of activity during this phase is through the mind. Like in normal life, the level of awareness, resources, environment, experiences, etc, decide the course of our life. Same happens during REM but without all man made limitations. The impressions of the experiences that happened to us in combination with the memory storage that needs exhaustion act rapidly creating meaningful/meaningless, real/unreal play of events that we call as a dream. And this is why, it seems so real, so weird and sometimes the same may happen in real life too.
By practicing any spiritual discipline, one can become conscious, hence can alter these cycles by will.
Eg- reduce the overall sleep time by increasing the time of sound sleep and still be active throughout the day.
I remember as a child how much I used to hate eating healthy. There were numerous times where I didn't want to eat a particular vegetable or dal and so I would starve myself for a couple of hours and boom! My parents would give me whatever I wanted to eat because I mattered to them. Living in a decent locality and having family and friends from similar localities, I could never see anything wrong with this world. Being brutally honest, everything on the news was just news to me! Well, everything nice and pretty until I moved out of my comfort area and started meeting different kinds of people. At first their life stories were nothing more than stories to me.
